OCCULTATION

 

An occultation occurs when one object is hidden by another that passes between it and the observer. There are several types of occultations:

  • Solar eclipse
  • Planetary transit
  • Planetary / moon
  • Lunar / star
  • Lunar / planetary
  • Asteroid / star
  • Exoplanet / star

The most widely known type are solar eclipses. The occultations that the PTO observes are the type when an asteroid blocks a stars light.
