NGC

Abbreviation: New General Catalog. The NGC is a catalog of 7,480 deep space objects compiled by J.L.E. Dryer and published in 1888. It is a follow-on catalog (hence the term NEW) to the General Catalog of Nebulae and Clusters published by John Herschel in 1864.
