ATLAS

The Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System is an automated system for detecting smaller near-Earth objects a few weeks to days before they impact Earth. The system consists of two matching telescopes 160 km apart, both in the Hawaiian Islands. One in on the island of Haleakala and one on the island of Hawaii.

The Atlas booster is a heavy launch vehicle used by NASA. It is derived from a short-lived USAF ICBM. Early versions launched 4 astronauts during the Mercury program.
